What will be included in the school?

This modern, sustainable facility will be designed as an inclusive space to support all students. The design will include flexible spaces that will foster student development and learning.

The buildings will be constructed using sustainable materials and will have air-permeability membranes and inground water tanks. They will also include a solar power-generation system to support the ACT Government’s commitment to climate action.

Spaces for community hire and use will be provided and will be easily accessible. It will have a double gymnasium with markings for basketball, netball, futsal, volleyball and badminton. There will be one covered hard court and one uncovered hard court that are suitable for basketball and netball, a playing field for ball sports, and external play equipment. It will be an exciting new modern facility that will create a vibrant and dynamic learning environment.

This project will undoubtedly be a great addition to the community. It will provide a space for students to flourish and learn, and for everyone to enjoy.

What is the school’s official name?

The official name of the school is Whitlam School, named in honour of former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam.

This name recognises Gough Whitlam’s enduring legacy of leadership, reform, and commitment to education and opportunity for all Australians. His vision continues to inspire future generations, making it a fitting foundation for a school dedicated to nurturing young minds.

What facilities will the school offer?

This school will cater for 780 preschool to year 6 students and the ECEC will accommodate 130 places from birth to preschool. High quality general and specialist learning environments, incorporating both indoor and outdoor learning areas, as well as integrated spaces to support students with diverse learning needs.

When will the new school be open?

The first stage of the new school will open for Term 1 in 2027. The starting year levels will be announced in mid-2026. Enrolments information is available on the ACT Government website page ‘Enrol in a public school’.
